It has been now a quarter of a century since I wrote the insightful book, America Shattered (now out of print, but available in Kindle or E-book form), in which I predicted that a wave of persecution would soon overtake the Christian Church. It was not a popular book since Reverend Jerry Falwell’s Moral Majority was at its peak and Christians were being feted at the White House and toasted at Presidential Prayer Breakfasts.

    “How idiotic,” one critic wrote. He noted things were progressively getting better and better for Christians. The Republican Party was catering to us and by the year 2000, Christianity would be victorious and sweep the world. Why, we would be able to win the globe, put it on a silver platter and present it to Jesus announcing, “Here is your birthday present, dear Lord.”

Forces of Evil Preparing for Battle

Today, in retrospect, we see that the forces of evil were then just gearing up to assault the Church. Homosexual legions were preparing their battering rams. Politicians were spreading lies and plotting deadly wars. Satan was priming the new leaders of Islam to commit atrocities. Jews were everywhere calculating how they would squelch true Christians. The New Age Movement continued to bring back the sins of ancient Babylon, and atheists grew active in their mad desire to stamp out the one, true God.

    The battle had only begun, and Christians were lazy, apathetic, asleep. False teachings and heresies rampaged on in churches everywhere.

    It’s like a football game. The score is 56-0 in favor of the visitors and we, the home team, find ourselves far behind late in the fourth quarter. How can we possibly win? How can victory be achieved? Defeat seems inevitable.

    Look at society. The nation has a wicked and ungodly President whom Newsweek proudly proclaimed “Gay.” The White House was recently bathed in rainbow-lit colors after the Supreme Court ruled same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. The federal debt is huge and unprecedented. Illegal immigrants flood in like water. Government oppresses the people with NSA surveillance and CIA schemes. Everywhere we find doom and gloom. Secession is discussed. Military veterans commit suicide at a historic rate. Murders and riots plague our cities.

    Meanwhile, Christians are under siege. Some are hauled into court. They’re called “hate criminals” simply because they believe in the Bible. That Bible, meanwhile, is looked at with disgust and horror by many. Recently, Frank Bruni, commentator for The New York Times demanded the Bible be revised. Those “ancient” verses opposing homosexuality must be removed, he insisted, if Christians are ever to be accepted by society.

Churches are Compromising

Churches are getting the message. Many are changing, reversing course on abortion, same-sex marriage, premarital sex, etc. “We must keep up with the times,” one Pastor explained.

    But you and I will not change. We cannot. We know that God does not change. We would not trust Him if He did. We have a faithful God, a certain friend, a persistent Lord who guides our path. This constant roadmap, this beacon of light, we cherish as Christians.

    “Follow me,” said Christ, and you and I pledge to do exactly that.

    “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets,” Christ Jesus assured His disciples “I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” (Matthew 5:17-18).

    He has written His law in our hearts, and we are delighted to understand it and obey: “Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in Heaven” (Matthew 5:12).

Across America, Gay Pride Parades are held with outrageous homosexuals, lesbians, and transgenders participating. These wicked revellers do their best to mock Christianity and make fun of Jesus Christ. They have no shame.

God is Angry With the Wicked Every Day

There is no doubt that we are met on every side by despisers of righteousness. The liberal homosexuals and transgenders; the pro-abortionists; the lying, false “Christians;” the political deceivers; all vex and torment us.

    Well, God has a message for them, one He has duly recorded in His Word. Read and heed, sinner, for by persecuting Christians you are thereby sealing your own doom:

    Yes, “God is angry with the wicked every day.” In fact, God has even prepared in advance the wicked’s tools and methods of destruction:

    “Ha Ha, I’m not afraid,” say the prideful and arrogant. But the stupid and foolish man seriously errs when he convinces himself that God does not judge. He will, indeed judge every man:

You Are Loved by God

Now the good news! While God is angry with the wicked every day, those who love the truth can be certain that they are, in turn, loved by God. You can be sure that God is watching and protecting you and I every day.

    In fact, “the Lord has set apart him that is godly for himself” (Psalm 4:3). Yes, He has set you and I apart from the wicked, from those who would persecute and revile us:

    How wonderful for us to know that God “hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son” (Colossians 1:13).

    Never forget. You and I are the overcomers. Through faith in Jesus we have not only overcome the wicked, we have conquered death itself.
