History is full of warnings, but we haven’t always been very good at heeding them. The past is bursting with people who made mistakes similar to those of their predecessors, and, lo and behold, they suffered similar consequences. These tragedies are especially sad because they are often preventable.
October 1, 1949 – The People’s Republic of China is
Established
Mao Zedong declared the establishment of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in front of a massive crowd in Tiananmen Square, marking the beginning of communist rule in China. After years of civil war between the Chinese Communist Party and the Nationalist Party, the Communists’ victory dramatically shifted the global political landscape.
Does it seem like this scenario is on America’s horizon? The likes of Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Zohran Mamdani, Abdul El-Sayed have become widely popular among the younger generations. Go ahead, look up the list of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) public officeholders, you will be shocked at the length of the list. These are people in positions of “leadership.”
Why has the DSA become so popular? One answer may be the financialization of America. As most countries rise, it creates wealth, wellbeing, and a means of advancement by manufacturing or other real businesses. In financialization, everything has moved into Wall Street, investing, banking, etc. with illusionary wealth.
Remember the dotcom crash in the 1990s and the banking crash we saw in 2008? The same is likely true for high tech and artificial intelligence today. The AI executives admit there is currently no profit in AI, yet it is leading the way in spending and investing.
Secondly, the power of the illusionary wealth businesses is monopolized into the hands of the very few. With so few holding the power and money and insider trading, the younger generations are disillusioned and have become disassociated from working hard and even from family.
October 24, 1929 – Black Thursday Strikes Wall Street
Black Thursday is widely considered the beginning of the stock market crash that led to the Great Depression. On that fateful day, panicked investors sold off millions of shares, causing stock prices to plummet.
The crash wiped out fortunes of illusionary wealth overnight and sent shockwaves through the global economy. The Great Depression that followed deeply affected economies worldwide leading to mass unemployment, poverty, and social unrest.
How did America and the world finally come out of the depression? By returning to manufacturing the thing that actually built this country. (Yes, it was war related manufacturing.)
Today’s parallels also reflect weak banking systems—a bank on every corner, but the average person has no money.
A weak demand for goods has been created due to exploding inflation and a faltering economy. Americans are able to afford less necessities, never mind indulgences.
October 31, 1517 – Martin Luther’s 95 Theses Sparks the
Reformation
Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg, Germany, criticizing the Catholic Church’s practices, particularly the sale of indulgences. Luther’s bold stand ignited the Protestant Reformation, a movement that shattered the corrupt Roman Catholic stranglehold on Europe and the world.
Great protestant reformer Martin Luther not only took on the Vatican and its lies but also vigorously opposed the horrific lies of the Jewish rabbis. As a young man, Luther befriended Jews and invited rabbis into his home. He even wrote a book advising Christians to be kind and loving to Jews (with the intent of Salvation).
Later in life, Luther learned of the true teachings and dealings of the Jews. The last sermon Luther delivered was a warning to the Christian Church to beware of the hatred, satanic practices, and lies of the Jews and their wicked traditions of their Talmud.
Repeating history, today’s churches have similar “buying of indulgences.” One corruption is known as the prosperity gospel; another was the laughing revival, and there are other false movements. Another is the high percentage of Christians having blind adoration of the nation-state of Israel, calling them God’s Chosen.
Can a New Reformation be sparked today? Can we look beyond the next churchianity trend and instead renew our own hearts and earnestness for Jesus our Saviour in America and the world? The Reformation of Martin Luther’s era led to a new religious zeal and reform within Christianity. Eager ears tuned to hear and eyes opened to see. This is one part of history that should be repeated.
