Grace and Regrets in the Midst of a Revolution

“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”

Genesis 6:5-6

You know what came soon after: God’s decision to destroy, not just man, but more specifically, the evil that grieved Him—the evil that man had created or succumbed to. How much more so is the Lord grieved in His heart today?

Mankind Was Out. Of. Control.—And Still Is

These are the synonyms that Thesaurus.com gives for out-of-control: all over the place; chaotic; cluttered; confused; dislocated; disorganized; heterogeneous; indiscriminate; irregular; jumbled; messy; mixed up; out of line; out of step; out of whack; scattered; scrambled; slovenly; topsyturvy; tumult; uncombed; undisciplined; unkempt; unmethodical; unrestrained; untrained. God is not the author of this confusion, but we know who is.

As in the days of Noah, evil, chaos and crisis reign supreme. It’s part of the battle plan of Satan: shut man’s eyes to see, his ears to hear and harden his heart, so he would do nothing but question God and even His very existence. And, without God, man also denys the immortality and plight of his own soul.

How a Small Minority Can Change the World

Revolution (also rebellion) is nothing new. But the chaos has, to one extent or another, barged in on every one of our lives. Sometimes it is a subtle as, “yea, hath God said...” Other times it’s as bold as a genocidal dictator or as surreptitious as adding “children’s health picture books” and other titles relating to LGBTQ and racial issues (read CRT) to schools and public libraries. The customs and institutions we hold so dear have been invaded by an ungodly minority. The outright assault on God and Country cannot be denied.

The Revolutionary War involved just a small percentage of the people as actual actors in the revolution—a minority. But this minority had a Sure Foundation. Our Founding Fathers believed in and feared God. Patrick Henry said, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” John Quincy Adams said, “From the day of the Declaration...they (the American people) were bound by the laws of God, which they all, and by the laws of The Gospel, which they nearly all, acknowledge as the rules of their conduct.”

From the time of America’s Revolutionary War to now, there are instances too numerous to mention, illustrative of the impact that one person or a small number of people can make on a whole society. But are these new revolutionaries of Satan or God?

You can’t escape the revolution. If you are living and breathing and on the green side of the grass, you are a part of this new (same old) revolution. You may be a general, a warrior, a foot soldier, or behind-the-scenes support. But, Woe to those who stand in the apathetic middle (either hot nor cold) as they are cannon fodder—expendable or exploitable.

Regrets

Especially as a Christian, but also as a patriot, I deeply regret and am grieved over the depths to which America has sunk. At first Satan had to stealthily creep in, gaining only small holds here and there. Through the years the true watchmen on the walls have often been ridiculed and reviled. And now it seems, Satan is being given celebrity status in our society to degrade and nullify churches, society, morals and hearts. Now we are regretful for having let our guard down through the years.

Having true regret over the conditions we find ourselves and country means we still have a heart and conscience unseared by God. And if our hearts sincerely seek to do God’s will, walk His path, and be in service for Him and fear Him, He offers us grace, not regrets.

Noah Found Grace in the Eyes of the Lord

This is for you and for me, oh child of God, and whosoever will. Grace—God’s beautiful, generous, undeserved grace. With this grace, His grace, we are the other small minority that can cause change. We must act!

As we start the new year of 2024 let us pray for God’s grace, guidance, mercy and especially His intervention. May we be His willing standard bearers and may He order our steps, that we may lead our families, friends and country through the tumultuous times ahead.

“O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”

Psalm 34:3

“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.”

Psalm 51:12-13
