The Fear
Factor—What, When, and Whom Should You Fear?: Everywhere we turn today we find the fear factor. Dread and
fear are dramatically affecting our everyday lives. Our federal and local governments, TV
and other media constantly encourage us to be fearful. They warn we should fear a potential
stock market crash and financial meltdown, fear losing our jobs, fear big dangers of
biochemical terrorism (anthrax, smallpox, nuclear bombs in suitcases, fertilizer bombs,
truck bombs, suicide bombers, etc.), fear possible aircraft hijackings, fear cancer and
disease induced by food additives, fear obesity, and of any one a hundred other looming
threats. Is the fear factor making us doubt our God? Is the fear factor driving us all
to abandon our freedoms and liberties in a vain attempt to secure a little physical
safety?
