Erasing Truth and Trust

“In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Psalms 11:1-3

Truth and Trust: It ain’t what it used to be. For years now we’ve been dealing with the nullification of truth. The insidiousness of the matter is, because truth has become so subjective, trust is being erased. Lies across the media spectrum; cheating on a test or on your spouse; sending history down the memory hole because it hurts someone’s feelings; lying about gender—the truth has now become whatever the individual deems it in that moment and it’s getting easier to control the individual.

Social Media

The intrusion of Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and other social media have set up users to become sitting ducks for the next “advancement” of technology. We’ve all seen the couples and families in restaurants where eveyone is staring at their phones. The obsessive need for constant stimulation has set the stage for what’s coming next.

I’m not saying social media isn’t a useful tool also. The upside to social media is that it has given a platform to individuals to expose evil and question the mainstream party line, but with this has also come the charlatans who proclaim truth, but do lie.

Artificial Intelligence

Previously, we have been subject to Photoshop being used to create fake pictures to tell fake stories. This took time and skill. Now with machine intelligence, AI is creating stories and pictures with the mere click of a button. And, AI is leap-frogging in ability and sophistication with each passing day.

A very recent example was exposed by author James Perloff in his blog post titled, AI Threatens to Turn Fiction into “Reality.” Mr. Perloff was researching a particular topic, but because of his previous research and book on Abraham Lincoln, YouTube suggested a new video regarding the Lincoln topic. The story goes that someone had “discovered” in a dusty trunk, a supposedly historical picture showing Abraham Lincoln and her great-great grandfather. Noticing a couple of vague red flags, Mr. Perloff researched the accuracy of the claimed people in the picture and... it was all a big fat lie. This woman had created a phoney family history. She is also raking in money with each of her almost half a million viewers, plus subscibers to her channel.

The person producing and presenting this slick production wants viewers to accept it without question, as though it was the truth. Probably very few of the people who have seen will ever question its validity. The ability to comment on the video has been turned off so no one can publicly declare the hoax. It is now, “new truth.”

Purposely Induced Confabulation

Although it is one tiny example of AI lies, the full impact is monumental. It’s not hard to imagine the ease with which new confabulations will multiply and be presented as truth.

Typically a confabulation is a memory error by a person who creates false or distorted memories without intending to deceive. It often occurs in individuals with brain damage or disease. They genuinely believe these fabricated memories to be true.

Confabulation sometimes also happens in children who experience trauma and have we not all been bombarded with trauma by way of constant war, riots, social upheavals, climate alarmism and more? How much more the impact on our children?

It is mind-boggling for me to realize that our children may not even know real truth or the concept of it! How can they when it’s being erased by the minute with each new induced confabulation?

Without Truth There is No Trust or Confidence

Our moral society was established on God’s Holy Word. But again, the younger generations are faced with subjective truth equaling no trust. If you give a King James Bible will it stand a chance against every new “truth” and AI technology? How will they discern which of hundreds of Bible versions are true?

Truth in churches is also subjective, thus trust is hard to come by. Texe Marrs showed how easily adults have been deceived—how much more so for children? With the lack of truth and trust in spiritual leaders, churches have become more about programs and entertainment rather than learning about God’s love and trusting Jesus’ final sacrifice and ressurection.

The Foundation of Truth and Trust Erased

As more people, especially younger people, are disconnected from truth and trust will they even have the capacity to trust in Jesus? Will God be perceived as an AI created entity who is subject to the garbage in/garbage out programmers? What will our younger generations do with a foundation of perverted truth so convoluted that they won’t know what to believe or whom to trust? Society is adrift in a new era, on the verge of capsizing and they may be rudderless in the storm.

Grace and The Remnant

I trust in Jesus’drawing, the Spirit’s leading and God’s grace. He will call His own to Him. God’s Holy Word tells us in Romans 11:5, “Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.” Still, I understand evermore the smallness of the Remnant.
