Pedophiles in
the Priesthood: Jerry
Barrett is pleased to welcome author Edward Hendrie to discuss recent news reports on the abuse
of children by Catholic priests. Over forty years ago, a 69-page document bearing the seal of Pope
John XXIII was sent to every bishop in the world outlining a policy of secrecy concerning
allegations of sexual abuse by priests. Accusers were required to take an oath of secrecy or risk
excommunication. Many priests were moved from parish to parish to avoid prosecution. In extreme
instances, the Vatican would recall the priest to Rome and deny any extradition charges. Pope
Francis has recently come under pressure to resign by a number a bishops and other Catholic
Leaders.
